What to do:

• Ask them to step outside unless they have a warrant signed by a judge. Say, “I don’t want you in my home. Please leave.”

• Don’t answer questions about yourself or loved ones. Say, “I don’t want to talk. Please leave.”

  • Tell them if there are children or other vulnerable residents at home.

• If they start to search rooms or items in your home, say, “I don’t consent to your search.”

• Don’t give them false or foreign documents.

If ICE is arresting you, tell them if you have medical issues or need to arrange for childcare. Other than that, stay silent.

Your rights: If they do not have a warrant signed by a judge, they cannot stay inside or search the home without permission from someone who lives there. They may say they need to do a quick search for their “safety.” If they see the person they intend to arrest and confirm that person’s identity, they will detain the person. You have the right to remain silent and not answer questions.
